In the last 6 Fridays left, my group is making tiles for the walls in the room. When we have finished putting the tiles together we will hang them up in the room to make the room more inviting to people that have never been to the school. We will also take pictures of the room to show the changes that we made from the beginning to now.

"Girls Who Code"
Girls Who Code is a club that tries to get girls inspired in computer jobs and coding. When people think of coding or computers, they usually think of men. This club is trying to stop the gender gap and get girls into the industry. A Senior at Marshfield High School said, "By 2020 there will be 1.4 million job openings and women will only fill 3 percent of that demand." This club contributes to girls or anyone who identifies as a girl. They make sure that anyone who wants to be involved isn't kept from participating. If she does not have the materials, like a computer, she will be provided one with no expense. This club can also be put onto their resume which can help tremendously with entering the industry. "Girls Who Code focuses on facing challenges and being brave," said Samantha Buckley who is a preparedness coordinator. It gives them the opportunity to close the gender gap and to go for something that isn't handled to them. In Cloud’s article, he explains about how geniuses in our generation have different definitions for genius. Some ideas explain that you must have a high IQ to be technically called a genius but other studies say that you need many hours of practice or it depends on your genetics. His conclusions states about how anyone can be a genius with hard work. In approaching my Genius Hour projects with my group, this articles motivate up to work ourselves to our best ability and to know that you can’t become a genius just because of your IQ score.
Mr. Cowen's presentation on his 3-D printer helped me present my presentation because he showed me that you have to keep eye contact and move around so you don't look nervous. He also gave jokes and talked like he would to any other person. The little demo pieces that he brought in helped show us what the layout of each piece is like. Also for being a good audience he gave us a like Model T car. Just how relaxed he was during the presentation made it feel invited to be there.
Described in this articles, "How Geniuses Think," that geniuses have a different thought process by thinking of many situations that can solve a question or problem. They know "how" to think, rather then "what" to think. Studies of geniuses in 1904, showed that "most geniuses are fathered by men older than 30; had mothers younger than 25 and were usually sickly as children," but this accusation wasn't true for all geniuses. They all have in common strategies they used including how geniuses look at problems in many different ways, make their thoughts visible, produce, make novel combinations, force relationships, think in opposites, think metaphorically, and finally prepare themselves for chance. All these strategies made me think that my Genius Hour Project can be taken many different ways. That failure can be an option but most of the times there is a different way to look at it and find other opportunities to fix what we have started.
In this article, Genius Hour is a project that is help in many states that lets students express what they love that can help the community. Almost all of the students have control of their own “Genius Hour” and may experience problems. They have been taught that failure is an option but to keep trying because later on in life they will have to do things for themselves and not be told what to do. This article has showed me that not everything we do in this project is decided by my group. Everyone in our school can participate in helping our school with surveys and to contributing supplies.
For my Genius Hour project, Meryl, Molly, and I teamed up to make the school better. At this moment we are working on Room 100 and the Reading room in our school to help make it relaxing and comfortable to learn. We have planned to hang projects and decorations on the walls and create soft and durable chairs. Recycling old windows and painting on them also taking old blankets and making them into chairs. By January we plan to have both the Reading room and Room 100 decorated and inviting to new people that have just arrived to our school.
